News Flash: You can make your own tooth powder! You will save a ton of money, and you can make a product that you like the flavor of. All-natural tooth powders are easy to make, and there is a lot of information available on the internet if you feel like doing a little bit of research.
I started making my own tooth powder a couple of years ago, and I’m so glad that I did. It’s simple and takes very little time. Plus, once I have a batch made up, it lasts me a long time. I’ll share my recipe with you.
If you would rather have something paste-y, not powder-y, I recommend adding enough sesame oil to make a paste. Sesame oil has high calcium content, which is beneficial for the teeth and gums. Definitely avoid using glycerine; seemingly it is detrimental to dental health (like the alliteration there?).
Tooth Powder Recipe
- 3 Tbsp. baking soda
- 2 Tbsp. licorice root powder
- 1 Tbsp. myrrh powder
- 1 Tbsp. salt (I recommend Himalayan pink salt)
- ¼-½ tsp. cinnamon powder
- pinch turmeric powder
Combine the ingredients well and store in a small glass jar. Apply a small amount to your toothbrush, and brush as you normally would.
You can add essential oils to this recipe, if you want, but it should taste pretty good as-is. (Sometimes I do; sometimes I don’t.) I recommend tea tree and peppermint.
