Sunflower Seed Pesto

  • food processor


  • 1 bunch basil leaves
  • 1 bunch parsley
  • ½ c. raw sunflower seeds soaked and drained
  • 2 small cloves garlic
  • 1 lemon juiced
  • ¼ tsp. sea salt
  • ½ c. extra virgin olive oil
  • pinch cayenne pepper
  • 1 Tbsp. nutritional yeast


  • Place the basil, sunflower seeds, and garlic in the bowl of a food processor or blender. Process until coarsely ground.
  • Add the remaining ingredients. Process for a minute or so, making sure that everything is well incorporated.
  • Taste it; you may need to add a little more salt according to your taste.


Basil improves the function of neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin when eaten daily for one week.
