Welcome to Ayurveda 201!

a 10-week course
designed to teach you
Ayurvedic principles around food

Also known as the Science of Life, Ayurveda is an ancient modality that comes from what is today India. Ayurveda is a sister science to Yoga and as suc is the study of how to live a long and healthy life.

Ayurveda is based in the understanding that we are all a part of nature—we are influenced by the rhythms nature just as we are affected by our choices. Ayurveda teaches that we can actively align with nature’s cycles, and we can make conscious choices around our self-care habits. When we do both of these things, our health and wellness improve, often exponentially!

These alignments with nature also pertain to the foods we eat—as well as how we prepare and eat them.

In this course we will dive into all of the ideas around food. You will learn:

  • the foundational principles of Ayurveda
  • what your constitution is
  • how to eat for your constitutional type
  • why daily self-care routines around food are importanty
  • why you sometimes make poor food choices
  • how you can use food to get back into balance

Hope this finds you well. I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the healthy habits and tips you shared with me. They set me on the right track and have brought good health and vigor into my life. Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season.

Your Teacher

Katrina Svoboda Johnson, LMP, AHP, SOMA

I have been in private practice since 2006 doing consultations, treatments, and bodywork. I view the pursuit of health and wellness as an active practice and — due to my art school background — approach it from a creative design process. I draw from a broad knowledge base to bring you creative solutions to your health and wellness concerns. When working with me you can expect out-of-the-box solutions and a supportive, non-judgemental approach. My diverse toolbox includes Structural Integration and the practical remedies that Ayurveda’s ancient wisdom gives us. Teaching is an important part of my work. I enjoy shining a light the situation at hand while illuminating the path forward.

I am a graduate of the Soma Institute of Neuromuscular Integration and the California College of Ayurveda. I have studied extensively with Dr. Vasant Lad, Dr. Sarita Shrestha, Mary Thompson, and Dennis Flaherty. I continue my studies in the fields of holistic wellness and the Vedic sciences.

Before answering the call to facilitate healing, I did other culturally relevant work: typesetting Pokémon cards. Today I combine my expertise in desktop publishing with my desire to make the topic of health and wellness accessible to a wide audience by creating gorgeous and engaging books, such as Blissful Belly.

I joined the Ayurveda Study Group in order to better understand myself and my doshas. I have learned so much more than I thought possible. Katrina’s easy approach to explaining the complexities of Ayurveda as well as her vast knowledge of the human body from a western perspective blend seamlessly to offer a varied and interesting look at Ayurveda.

I found working with Katrina to be very knowledgeable as well as healing. Her workshops are thoughtfully planned, providing just enough information in each course to keep you wanting for more! And Yes! I will be back!

I have taken both the basic and advanced classes now and I feel like my understanding of Ayurveda has deepened. I want to keep learning and working with Katrina for years to come.
